Campers create water/beach scenes, cityscapes and landscapes using watercolors, tempera paint, chalk and clay. We’ll make summer designs; sun, turtles, etc. through the art of printing by press stamping with natural objects and use clay to make wind chimes and sculpt a bird.

Start with a dollop of drawing, add a pinch of painting, and a splash of sculpture for the perfect indoor summer picnic. We’ll be inspired by artists such as Claes Oldenburg & Robert Sabuda, who use food for their inspiration. George Seurat provides the theme for our picnic—no ants allowed!

Campers’ ideas come to life with the opportunity to express creativity through designing and constructing puppets using a variety of materials, techniques and subject matter. Campers will create their personal collection of sock, finger, shadow and molded puppets, just to name a few.

We’ll travel the world through the art and artists from the Brazilian rainforest through the Grand Canyon, to the islands of Australia, Japan and Jamaica and on to the continent of Europe. Using tooling foil, papier-mâché, wood, paper, cardboard, plaster, pencils, paint, pastels, feathers, fur and sequins, campers will appreciate other cultures and how they use the materials of their lands.

Campers will draw and develop their own animals and creatures while exploring various drawing, painting and crafting techniques. Styles and techniques include realism, impressionism, abstraction, patterns, textured drawing, collage, cartooning, and crafting sculpture.

Campers will discover how mixed media artists go about collecting materials or “visual evidence”. We’ll explore the journals of Dan Eldon and the three-dimensional shadowboxes of Joseph Cornell. Campers will focus on self-expression using recycled materials and found objects to create personal bound visual journals, an assemblage clock and a collograph plate for printing their masterpieces.

Bringing design and fine art together to promote creativity and expression, students will create movable, flat human models from cardboard and “dress” them in fun “clothing”. Clothing from a paper bag and hats from candy; Camp Runway campers will be challenged to create unique, whimsical garments using offbeat materials. Campers are introduced to creative concepts in pattern design, sewing and garment construction. All challenges allow for both boys and girls to create fun and interesting items.
