  • Visual Arts
    • Resident Artist and Organization Visual Art Classes
      • Diana Marta holds painting and drawing classes for adults in HCCA studio 3. Students from beginning to experienced are welcome. Instruction includes methods and approaches for technical and expressive use of drawing, watercolor, oil, acrylic, and collage. Lessons are based on formal design, observation, theme and invention. Call 410-750-3125 for info.

        David Zuccarini, nationally recognized artist, gives private instruction in traditional drawing and painting styles in Studio 10. Ongoing instruction provided for all levels of adult students including individualized instruction in charcoal, pastel and oil. Call 410-997-8572 for info.

    • Beginning Oil Painting, 17—Adult:
      • Students will begin the art of oil painting by first developing hand-eye coordination and exploring line, shape and value through drawing. Artists will then advance, with a simple palette, to blocking in shapes and using additive and subtractive methods to create images on the painting surface. Come have fun with oil!

    • Photography Refocus Workshop, 17—Adult:
      • Create more powerful photos using your eyes, heart, and mind. Learn how to see compelling compositions and how to use lighting to convey your vision. Discover how to make color, line, shape, texture and perspective work for you. Improve your photos of people, buildings, flowers, pets and landscapes. Digital camera (cell phone, point and shoot, dslr, etc.) required.

    • Hand Embroidery Techniques, 15—Adult
      • This class will introduce participants to a variety of embroidery techniques including different stitches, appliqué, ribbon embroidery, and simple beading techniques. We will also explore how these techniques have been used by different cultures.

    • Life Drawing/Painting Sessions - Drop In
      • A live, nude model is provided at each session. A monitor coordinates all sessions, however, instruction is not provided. The sessions consist of a single pose with the same model over a multiple week period for detailed figure study work. One day, multi-pose sketching sessions will be held on occasion.

        Bring your own art materials. There are a limited number of easels, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sessions purchased in advance are only good for one year from time of purchase. Pre-registration is not required.

    • Portrait Drawing/Painting Sessions - Drop In

    • Traditional Rug Hooking: Birds’ Nests, 18—Adult:
      • Hook a selection of small (4”x4”) to (6”x10”) bird’s nests on linen using a variety of materials including wool fabric, yarn, feathers, unspun wool, and raffia. The nests make wonderful gifts. Basic knowledge of the hooking technique required.

    • Hand Embroidery Techniques Workshop, 15—Adult:
      • This workshop will introduce participants to basic embroidery stitches and techniques. Participants will learn methods of transferring designs to fabric and discuss ideas for using embroidery to embellish clothing and household items.

    • Plein Air Pastels, 16—Adult:
      • Learn the basics of outdoor landscape painting with pastels. Students will meet in various locations, observe works of established artists for technique and composition, and create landscapes on site. Group sharing and discussion helps to expand understanding of technique. Enjoy the outdoors and create your own masterpieces!

    • Fun with Watercolor, 15-Adult
      • Discover transparent watercolor techniques and media! Themes will include still life, landscape, the figure in the environment, and architecture. Beginners are welcome! More advanced students will have opportunities for greater experimentation and expression.

    • Mommy/Daddy and Me Halloween Mask Making Workshop, Family pairs age 6+
      • A morning of family fun! Participants will construct and decorate Halloween masks using a cardboard base and paper sculpture methods. Masks will be decorated with yarn, sequins, feathers and other materials. Prices are per pair.

  • Performing Arts
    • No Boundries Musical Theatre Program (ages 17 and up)
      • In this musical theater class, young adults with mild to moderate disabilities can sing, dance and act while performing segments from a famous Broadway musical. The class will end with a public performance in the black box theatre. Presented in cooperation with the Howard County Recreation and Parks.     • Fabulous 50+ Players Musical Theatre Program
      • The Fabulous 50+ Players is a senior musical theatre group with national recognition open to anyone 50 years or older who wants to work hard, have fun, and enjoy the gratification of being involved in a production with this unique group . This Fall, they will be performing a set of outreach performances of The Fab 50's Present a Festive 50's Show at local senior centers. Rehearsals start in October for November and December performances. Auditions are September 28 and October 5, 7PM. Bring sheet music and be prepared to sing a song of your choosing, preferably from the 50s.

    • Improvisational Acting, 14—Adult
      • Students of all levels of theatre experience practice warm-ups, pantomime, learn stage and audience etiquette, and then add character motivation and story. Students learn the rules of various scenes used in the TV show Whose Line is it Anyway? Put on a show at the end of the course!

    • Resident Artist and Organization Performing Art Classes
      • Howard County Ballet challenges dancers to reach their full potential by providing superior ballet training for all levels and ages with additional instruction in Modern, Jazz, Tap, and Character. Limited class enrollment according to age and level in a supportive, non-competitive environment. Classes take place in HCB's studio 17 and the HCCA dance studio.         Chesapeake Shakespeare Company-Stuck on Shakespeare Ages 11-14. Get stuck on Shakespeare as we explore language, characters and the fun of performing the best plays around. Students will develop basic acting, character creation, plus, learn songs and stage combat all to be performed for family and friends during the last class.
