About Us

Bringing the Arts to Life

The Howard County Arts Council was established to serve the citizens of Howard County by fostering the arts. We are devoted to nurturing local artists and arts organizations, furthering the public’s appreciation of the arts, and ensuring that the arts are accessible - regardless of age, ability or economic status.

To fulfill our mission and goals, the Arts Council sponsors a wide variety of arts initiatives that nurture and strengthen the arts. We award grants and scholarships, provide advancement opportunities for artists and arts organizations, create an environment for open expression and exchange, encourage people – young and old alike - to discover their own artistic talents, and act as the primary voice and advocate for the Howard County arts community.

In addition, the Arts Council oversees the operations of the Howard County Center for the Arts, a multi-purpose arts facility in Ellicott City, where visitors can take a class, view an exhibit, or enjoy a performance. In bringing the arts to life in our community, we hope to encourage people with diverse interests and backgrounds to explore and enjoy the arts!

The Howard County Arts Council and the Howard County Center for the Arts are committed to non-discrimination in their programs and operations.
